It’s Adopt A Shelter Dog Month.
But what if you can’t adopt a dog right now? You might think you don’t have anything to offer shelter dogs, but you’re wrong.
IF YOU HAVE 1 MINUTE – Share/network at least one post of a dog in need of help. Post a shelter dog’s photo on your Facebook wall, on Twitter, or Pinterest. It takes just a minute and could mean the difference between life and death for a dog waiting in a shelter.
IF YOU HAVE 5 MINUTES – Open your linen closet and remove the sheets and towels you no longer use. Throw them into a bag and leave them by your front door to drop off at the shelter the next time you go out. Shelters always need these things.
IF YOU HAVE 20 MINUTES – Create a flier to post in local pet shops listing all free/low-cost spay and neuter programs in your area. Spaying and neutering is imperative to ending the pet over-population problem in our country.
IF YOU HAVE AN ENTIRE DAY – Visit your local shelter and ask how you can help. Inquire about their volunteer program and meet some of the staff. Then, roll up your sleeves and get to work!
IF YOU HAVE THE GIFT OF TIME THAT KEEPS ON GIVING – Volunteer regularly at your local shelter. Run donation drives in your area. Contact your elected officials and encourage them to fight BSL. Bring your Pit Bull into the community and open eyes, minds, and hearts. Think outside the box, gets your hands dirty, and MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD.
