When I was younger, my teenage brother gave his teenage girlfriend an adorable white rabbit for Easter.
A sweet thought? Yes.
A practical gift? No.
Pets, regardless of the occasion, are not an appropriate gift. YOU can’t make a 10-15 year commitment for another person, and that is exactly what a pet is – a commitment.
A pet is not something YOU can decide for someone else.
If you’re even thinking about giving someone a pet this Christmas, please don’t. Give them a gift card or a DVD or an iPod. Give them something that, if they don’t like it and decide to return it, won’t result in the death of an innocent animal.
